It has been only a few weeks since Apple's new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max hit the market, yet complaints regarding discoloration of the phone's exterior have already begun to surface among online users.
According to users, this issue has been observed across various versions of the phone, though the discoloration is particularly noticeable on the Burgundy-colored model.
Interestingly, the discoloration does not affect the entire back of the phone; instead, it appears to be concentrated in the area surrounding the three rear cameras. Some users state that this change is not caused by dust, grease, or any visible physical damage, as cleaning the phone does not restore the original color.
The definitive reason for this change has not yet been identified. However, a user has suggested that the heat generated during camera usage might be causing the discoloration of the surrounding area. Numerous reports from various users indicate that this issue is not merely an isolated incident.Apple has not yet issued an official statement regarding this alleged discoloration; consequently, it remains unclear whether the company will offer a solution or a replacement for the affected phones, or if users will be required to continue using them in their current state. This is not the first time complaints have surfaced regarding the exterior finish of a new iPhone model; previously, reports emerged of severe discoloration in certain orange-colored units of the iPhone 17 Pro. While the company replaced affected iPhone units free of charge last year, available information suggests that the issue was not reported on the same scale with the iPhone 17 Pro as is currently being claimed regarding the iPhone 18 Pro.
