An army major was martyred and four militants were killed during intelligence-based operations in Balochistan, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), as reported by Dawn on October 19.

The military said operations were conducted in Shadi Kaur and Pasni in Gwadar district, as well as Jattakabad in Kalat district. During an operation in Jattakabad on October 18, four militants were killed and a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered.

During clearance operations around Shadi Kaur and Pasni, 34-year-old Major Wajahat Waheed was killed in an improvised explosive device attack. He was a resident of Lahore and was leading the operation.

The military said clearance operations would continue. The developments underline the continuing security challenges in Balochistan, where stability is important for public safety, local businesses, transport and economic development.
